Edward Crutchfield
Mr. Crutchfield brings extensive operating experience to Frontier as the former CEO of First Union Corp. (now Wachovia). He is an active advisor and investor in a number of our portfolio companies, including CreateHope and LURHQ. Mr. Crutchfield actively assists us as we evaluate financial services and other related investments.
Mr. Crutchfield became First Union’s President in 1973 at the age of 32, which at the time was the youngest President of a major bank in the U.S. He served in this position for 11 years before becoming the institution’s CEO in 1984. Under Mr. Crutchfield’s leadership, First Union’s assets grew from approximately $5 billion to over $250 billion when he retired in 2000. First Union combined with Wachovia Corporation in 2001. Today Mr. Crutchfield serves on the Boards of Liberty Corporation, Bernhardt Industries and VF Corporation. He is an active investor in several other businesses as well.
In addition to his business activities, Mr. Crutchfield is involved with many charitable and non profit organizations. He is currently the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Davidson College, serves on the National Board of Governors of The Nature Conservancy, and is a Board Member of the Foundation For The Carolinas.
Mr. Crutchfield received his B.A. in Economics from Davidson College and his M.B.A from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
